Cirque du Soleil
October 1st 2006 23:53
OK, so my blog is about Movies and its Link (or non-link) to Life, what does that have to do with Cirque du Soleil? Cirque evoked such strong feelings in me, that I likened it to seeing a distinctive film. Cirque allowed me to peek into another world I’d never been in before. So, I decided that one the prerogatives of having a blog is that you can write about anything you like and I’m using that privilege today.
Cirque’s immediate effectiveness astonished me. I was emersed in their world, a place deep within a forest at the summit of a volcano. Here, an extraordinary world exists where almost anything is possible. This world is called Varekai. From the sky falls a solitary young man is parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastical creatures. This young man sets off on an adventure both absurd and extraordinary.
Cirque’s philosophies stood out to me. Their basic premise is that ‘anything is possible, if you just lose your mind to it, take comfort in the chaos, wander wonderfully, never share secrets with yourself and crisis is a rite of passage’.
They aim to bring hope to everyone that journeys with them and tell their audience that something else is always possible…..

Yes, it was good timing that there was a program on last night and I just saw them the night before. I was in awe of their talent and the overall uniqueness of their act, I've never seen anything like it. I was also amazed at how many people it would take to do a production like that. They must live and breathe their work, but you could tell they loved what they do from the looks on their faces and the zeal in which they did their acts.
Hope you get to see it another time, I'm sure they'll visit Sydney again sometime.

What I loved most was the way the audience was involved and "forced" to trust total strangers. A clown would take the glasses off a woman on one side of the stadium, and put them on the face of a man on the opposite side. The same was done with neck ties, purses, and even PEOPLE. The clown actually picked up a small-framed woman and carried her across the stage to the other side of the stadium and sat her in the lap of another man.
Absolute craziness... but I loved it, and I loved that every pair of glasses, neck tie, purse, and person was returned to its rightful place.
