British film locations

A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange

This may seem like an obtuse topic to write a post about, but I’m going to yabber on anyway. Have you ever wondered where films are set, especially British ones with their broad range of accents?

I always wanted to find out where A Clockwork Orange was located with its unusual sounding voices, now I know because I found some information on the BBC website. It is Thamesmead South Housing Estate in London. I also learnt that another one of my long-standing revered films, Secrets and Lies was set in Bethnal Green where I spent a lot of time when I lived in London. Another additional influential film, My Beautiful Laundrette was set in Lambeth, another place that I spent time in.

Very interesting! I always want to know where period films are set, especially the big castles and gardens. I think there was a bit of Becoming Jane that was set at Jane Austen's real house. I would love to go there.

So, that's where they made, "A Clockwork Orange", a favorite movie of mine Tracey. That was a bit of an 'edgy' film. Raven

I've always wondered where Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels was filmed. Now I know.

I love trivia like this kind of stuff.

Hi Michaelie

I know what you mean, I love castles, palaces, old houses. I love the feel of the history and imagining who lived there and what they did.

I didn’t know that about Jane Austen’s house. I would love to go there too.

Hi Raven

It’s good to have some company in my zeal for Clockwork Orange. It definitely was an edgy film and difficult to watch in parts, but unique and compelling. I've never seen anything like it.

Thanks for popping in,

Tracy

Hi Tracy

ooooh i didn`t know Four Weddings and a Funeral was filmed in Amersham - I used to live near there at one of my stops in my UK travels. Very cool!

And now I`ll have to watch Quadrophenia (haven`t heard of it before) just because it was filmed in Brighton. I get all teary when I see movies of there.... you gotta LOVE the place.

Thanks for a trip down memory lane.

Hi Ash

It's great finding out how close we might've been to some of these film locations isn't it?

I haven't seen Quadrophenia either, but I also hold Brighton close to me. My sister and I had many great weekends there in and out of those little windy streets and the eclectic markets. I love the place.

Glad you enjoyed the post,

Trace

Interesting Post! I love to wait in a theater while the credits roll to note the movie's location. Thanks for the listing. I hope to travel overseas next year and am in the process of choosing locations.
Thanks

Hi Mis

Now that is a logical thing to do...to wait until the credits to learn where it was filmed!! Why hadn't I thought of that before...silly moi.

Ooh, travelling next year, do you have any idea which area you might go to?

Tracy
