My Top 10 of actors I cannot stand

August 15th 2007 04:12
Hello, I’m feeling grumpy and tired today so I am going to take some of my angst out on the celebrity actor world instead people in my own world. I’m not even going to justify why they annoy me, I’m just going to list them. These are actors that I can’t stand, they put me off seeing a film.

Feel free to add to the list and together this will be a non-chirpy Orble post.

Here is my top 10. There are more but I didn’t want you to think I’m completely miserable git.

Angela Lansbury
Laura Dern
Tom Hanks
Andie McDowell
Hillary Duff
Steven Seagal
Russell Crowe

Jean-Claude Van Damme
Chuck Norris
Glenn Close

great idea for a post, and I agree with many of yours ... here are some of mine:

Glenn "annoying" Close
Angela "irritating as all hell" Lansbury
Chuck "can't act his way out of a vomit bag" Norris
Gwenyth "bore me to tears" Paltrow
Keanu "wooden" Reeves
Steven Seagull, er, Seagal
... I've gone all blank ... which is probably a good thing. I don't need reminding of the actors who I can't stand ...

GREAT idea for a post. I can't seem to upload images onto Orble because it's going in a loop, so I'm going to use this comment as a vent of my anger and frustration. Cool.

Now, allow me to oblige.

I HATE BILL PAXTON!!!!!!!!!!

I hate the way he SPEAKS, I hate the way he LOOKS and I certainly don't like the way he "ACTS". He makes me want to PUNCH THINGS.

Ah, that is better!

Hey Tracy,

Hope you feel a little chirpier soon. It`s all overcast and threatening to rain here, some weather to suit your mood?

wow you don`t like Tom Hanks? Some of my unfavourites would be

HILLARY DUFF
HilLary Duff
Woody Allen

I can`t think of anyone else at the moment, I`ll have to ponder on this one for a wee bit longer!

Any actor on mission to save us from our own weaknesses.

Sly Stalone in Rambo 3 (hehehe)
Stevan Segal looks like he couldnot give a crapabout anyone he is trying to help.
Victor Mature (proving that ugly is also a star quality)
Arnie ( sorry but he can be so damn preachy before blows someone up)
Jane Fonda (Baberalla was the high point of her wingy career)
Tom Hanks(mostly an annoying sook face)
J Lo ( stick to singing because she just can't act at all. exhibit a: shall we dance? Then throw up.)
Shirley Temple (need I say more?)
Tom Cruise (Gee willikers Tom I didn't know that people are scared of the scientologists.)

Great Post we have many unfavourites in common:

I also cannot stand

Keanu Reeves - can't act for shitt
Sandra Bullock - see above and they are friends
Ben Affleck - he is improving slowly but what a tool
Woody Allen - it's obvious
Jude Law - never got that
Ian Ziering - I mean WHAT THE........he just has zero of anything and he has had the same hair line since he was like supposed to be 18

Pet Movie hate: Older men having leading ladies way too young for them in the film, makes me cringe and head for the bucket

AND UGLY Guys getting the Girl........ it aint ever going to happen.........

Tracy,

McCauley Caulkin (and most American, male child actors with bowl haircuts or girls' bob cuts).

Kevin Costner (although he was perfect in JFK).

Tom Hanks (he always looks like he's about to dribble or spit on me).

Nicole Kidman. (she always looks like she's got the contents of a private school lunchbox up her arse and is acting in front of a mirror not a camera).

Linda Koslowski-Hogan (does she qualify as an actor?)

Keanu Reeves (he could play a good wax dummy)

I could go on and on. I reckon it would be a good quiz to split into cinema / tv (there's just too many of them).

David ...

Tracy,

GREAT post. I'm so pleased to see that a few people don't like Tom Hanks. I really can't stand him. Some others are:

- Jennifer Aniston
- Meg Ryan
- Nicole Kidman
- Cuba Gooding Jr
- Jude Law
- Renee Zellweger

I'm sure there's lots more, but I'll stop there. Hehe, I can't believe how many people don't like Keanu Reeves or Steven Segal. I love them both (well, I used to love Steven. I haven't watched his movies in a while....they got so bad! But I persevered for quite some time with him).

Hi Tracy pretty much agree with all of yours except that Angela Lansbury was so good at being the mother from hell in the original Manchurian Candidate I cant include her. And Laura Dern saved hereself with David Lynch's Wild at Heart for me.

Here are some actors that if they are cast in a film, I usually cant sit through it..

Tom Cruise
Tom Hanks
Julia Roberts
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Ashton Kutcher
Denzel Washington
Sandra Bullock
Nicole Kidman
Russell Crowe (Except the Insider)
Will Smith

I don't know who I'd put on the list... I don't 'love' a lot of actors, but then I think that there's probably something that they've done that doesn't bother me.

I don't like child actors, that's for sure.

BEN AFFLECK!! I don't know why but I've never liked him at all. The main girl from Torchwood. Wesley Snipes! I can't think of any more at this point which is really strange. But I really like Russell Crowe and yes, I hate Jean Claude Van Damme too!

Hi Bryn

I love your middle names for your list. I agree with your description of Keanu, he always has a monotone tone (is that tautology?) doesn’t he? I wonder if he ever raises it when he has an argument? I don’t know what it is with Glenn Close but I can barely watch her. With Angela Lansbury, I know I’m being a bit mean because my judgement is based on her role, i.e. she always solves the murders in Murder she Wrote, she knows too much, she’s never flummoxed. I would love to see an episode where she can’t find the murderer, but then I guess they might have to change the name to Murderer She Couldn’t Find and that’s probably not that enticing for her fan base.

Byee and thanks,

Tracy

HI CC

Oooh, I know what you mean about not being able to upload pics when you really want to, that’s frustrating.

I’m glad you used the topic as a chance to vent, as that’s why I wrote it. It feels good doesn’t it? Vent away, CC!!!

I couldn't place Bill Paxton so I looked him up on YouTube. I don’t know if it’s because I knew how much he bothered you, but he did seem rather annoying and a bit poncey, so I agree with you.

Byee

HI ASh

Thanks for wishing me well, I just felt like I needed to let some stuff out. It’s been a difficult couple of weeks and I keep fluctuating between grumpiness and happiness, so I thought why not aim it at the celebrity world?!

Yes, I just find Tom Hanks so amiable...too straightforward..he’s not highest on my list, but I would love to see him branch out and do a non-Tom-Hanks role with a bit of gruff in it.

I nearly added Woody Allen, now that I think about it he would be number 11, thanks for helping me with that. I think I'm on my way to a Top 20. That'll be a joyful post won't it?!

We agree on Hillary Duff don’t we? I think the clue is in her name ‘duff’, that sums her up well.

Byee and thanks for joining in the joy,

Tracy

Hi Damo

I can’t believe I missed Tom Cruise, he’s number 12 now. He really annoys me with his sanctimonious advice based on nothingness. Who needs an actor to tell us how to live our lives? Oh yes, Sly Stallone, how can he be an actor when he can barely speak? I’d never heard of Victor Mature so I can’t comment there. I wasn’t sure whether to include J-Lo as I have enjoyed some mindless entertainment from her when I need a fluffy, formulaic, safe film, so in all fairness I can't include her in my list. He he to Shirley Temple!!

Thanks for your contributions, I am definitely moving towards a Top 20. What a joyous little creature I am today.

Byee

Hi Louie

Yes, we do have a few in common don’t we? Ah yes, Sandra Bollocks is annoying...I might add her to my list too. And yes, I nearly added Jude Phoaww Law, he annoyed the crap out of me in I ♥ Huckabees (but then the whole film did, the premise of the film was great, but it was too frantically talky, I know it was supposed to be but it was too much, although I don’t hold him responsible for the whole film) and in Closer he was decidedly weak. I think his only redeemable factor he has is that he is exceedingly good-looking. Oh gosh, Ian Ziering, that’s waft of tackiness from the past.

Your pet hates made me laugh, hope you feel better for getting all that out. I’m having fun listening.

Hi David

Yeah, what is it with American kids always having that generic bowl haircut? Maybe it was slightly acceptable in the 80s but that was two decades ago, it’s time to get rid of it...forever....

Caulkin was/is annoying, even when he was in a Will and Grace episode I was cringing. Kevin Costner always seems to do the same kind of roles, he needs a change. I like what you said about Tom Hanks, I’ve never thought of him that way but I will now though. And your description of Nicole Kidman is hilarious and one I will never forget. Didn’t Linda Koslowski-Hogan only have one role? I could look it up but I can’t be bothered.

Yes, I agree, I should split this topic into telly and cinema......thanks for all your comments,

Tracy

Hi Kylie

Glad you like the topic. Isn’t it funny when one person can’t stand someone and others like them, e.g. Angela Lansbury and Keanu Reeves.

I have to admit that I’ve liked most of Jennifer Aniston’s films....eeekkkk!! I watch them when I need some fluff, like with J-Lo. It’s safe and predictable, good for those days when you don’t want to think (and I do have a few of those).

Yes, I thought about Meg Ryan too, she plays the same roles all the time apart from In the Cut, at least that was different for a change. I’m undecided about Kidman......and yes, Renee Zellweger is annoying but not as galling as some others we’ve listed.

Thanks for your opinions,

Byeeeee

Hi PM

Yes, Orlando Bloom baffles me. There is so much hype about him and he’s just OK to me......

Thanks for popping in,

Tracy

Hi Nick

Good to see you. What a classic line: I think Steven Seagal should be neutered before he is allowed to reproduce!

I hope it's not too late!

Hi John

I didn’t see the Manchurian Candidate and that’s encouraging to hear that Angela Lansbury was good in that. Yes, thanks for saying that about Laura Dern, I knew there was a film that I liked with her in it but couldn’t remember. But apart from that one, I can barely watch her.

It seems like we agree on much of the same people from your list, except I sort of think Denzel Washington is alright. And I would put Julia Roberts in my formulaic fluff category (i.e. I would watch a film with her in it if I wanted a mindless, predictable story which I do enjoy sometimes).

Byeeee and thanks for your comments,

Tracy

Hi Cib

Fair enough, yeppie, some child actors can be irritating....and some phenomenal like the kid in the Sixth Sense,

Good to see you,

Tracy

Hi Aimzster

I’m undecided about Ben Affleck, I probably think he’s OK really. Ah yes, Wesley Snipes always seems to play the same roles doesn’t he? Interesting that you like Russell Crowe, I used to really like him, he was excellent in Romper Stomper and I liked him in Gladiator and that’s about it really. His singing doesn’t help me like him more....

Good post, Tracy! In addition to some already listed, here are others on my list:
Hugh Grant
Jim Carey -- though he was ok in 'The Truman Show' but I can't stand the other films he has done.
Jack Black! -- though I did watch 'The Holiday'
Borat!!

Just to add some fire to this...the cast of 'Friends'?!

Hi Lara

How funny, you've listed one of my faves....Friends!!!

I know what you mean with Hugh Grant, he almost always plays the same role doesn't he? He is a bit bumbling and soppy isn't he? But, I just looked up his films and realised I've liked quite a few of them, especially About a Boy as that was different. I think I just contradicted myself, oh well. I can like bits of him and not other bits....bit like life, but now I'm getting just a bit too philosophical and I've said 'bit' a lot....

I like Jim Carrey's serious roles, like you said The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, they were both great. But I did discover a love for The Cable Guy while we were on holiday.

I'm undecided about Jack Black as I haven't seen many of his films and I'm not keen on Borat either....he makes me cringe.

Thanks for your comments,

Natalie Portman and the kid who played Anakin Skywalker in the later Star Wars series. The acting and delivery of both of them in the first one make Charlie McCarthy look like Meryl Streep.

I like your approach, quick, solid and descriptive. I can’t make my mind up about those three but I know that I don’t like them as much as the rest of the world seems to.

They are just OK to me and they usually play in those formulaic sorts of films that generally I don't see.

Hi Norm

Thanks for your comments. I do like Eric Stoltz, I think it’s because he’s played some unusual roles where he takes a risk and isn’t so typecast as many of the other actors mentioned. I can’t say the same about Toby McGuire, he’s pretty wimpy which is ironic as he played Spiderman didn’t he?

Angela Lansbury - hey, she can't help it if she got stuck in that dreadful Murder She Wrote. Before that she was often great.

Tom Hanks - Forget Castaway and Terminal, and go back to some of his early movies. That's when he shone.

Andie McDowell - don't hate her, but don't think I've ever seen her in anything good.

Steven Seagal - hate might be too strong a word; try indifferent.
Russell Crowe - awww, come on, what's wrong with Russell? Apart from having been cast in some movies that didn't suit him, such as a Beautiful Mind and that recent Italian chick flick.

Jean-Claude Van Damme
Chuck Norris
Okay, I get the picture.

Glenn Close - Interesting choice for this list. The lady can act, and she's made some good movies, but she never appeals, that's for sure.

Hi Bernadette

You don't have to apologise to Jim Carey's fans, Í'm sure they are strong enough to hear your opinion. I know what you mean, his humour is very obvious and he almost does the same thing in each film.

Alternatively, I like his non-comedic films lilke The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I think these films give him a chance to show his strong acting potential.
