Slumber party films....your choice

December 3rd 2006 21:59
I’ve just had a wild night at Voices’ slumber party. Thanks for your hospitality, Voices. I had a blast.

I’m tired now and need some respite. But what film should we watch? In my younger days it would be Brat Pack films like The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and St. Elmo's Fire. I wanted to be Molly Ringwald with her messy orange hair, bright-red lipstick and designer punk-style gear. I wanted to snog Andrew McCarthy. Now I’m slightly more mature and my film choice has broadened to more meaningful films like Donnie Darko, The Station Agent and any Hal Hartley films. And I'd like to snog Johnny Depp. One thing has remained constant though, I always need company when watching scary films…

Which film do you fancy watching, you’re all welcome to join me….

Tracy,
No need to mention it! It was a blast...people are still coming by to check it out...it could get worse yet! lol

Can I just say, all of the above? I love these movies! They bring back so much nostalgia for me with the hair and the clothes and the slang...*sigh* Have I mentioned that I had the biggest hair in three towns? It's true. Aqua Net...good times, good times.

I have to say though that I recently had an actual slumber party and we watched The Exorcist. It was all of our first times seeing it. OH MY GOD. We screamed like little girly girls when the pizza delivery guy showed up. Poor guy, he had to have thought someone was being murdered...he dropped the pizza. We ate it anyways. *shrug*

Thanks for the mention, Tracy...we must get together more often and don't even think about not giving me all the details about your yummy dessert...I didn't get any, so I have to know in every possible way, if it was as delicious as it looked. *wink*

Hi Voices

I'm glad you popped in, you must be tired from all your entertaining.

You had the biggest hair in three towns?! That's brilliant, I was never brave enough to do anything adventurous to mine, that's probably why I yearned to be like Molly.

I remember watching Halloween with friends, pretty scary stuff. The Exorcist is a corker of a film. Glad you still enjoyed your pizza, even though it was dropped. Poor pizza guy. Like you, fear makes me hungry.

I'd better dash off, I'm not sure I have enough nibblies so I might have to go to the shops.

Peter Sellers in THE PARTY.

I had to slip away from Voices' slumber party to attend a wedding ... sounds like it was fun.

Bryn,
A wedding so you say...I heard you were hidden beneath a bed the entire time watching our party! *smile*

Yes, Tracy...THREE towns!

LMAO! Adventurous doesn't quite cover it...doing my hair was like an extreme sport. The hole in the ozone layer may be completely my fault...

HI Bryn

Yes, the slumber party was great. Voices' organised some great desserts.

Now it's time for some relaxation, I've never seen The Party but it sounds pretty apt.

Hi Voices

Thanks for sharing that pic with us, I can see why your hair was the biggest in three towns. Did you ever measure it and how long did it take you to do it? And how long was it like that for? Sorry about all my questions but I'm very curious...

Tracy,
No, I never did measure it but I do know that it took me a minimum of an hour to do it. Everyday. For several years. I would say I averaged about a can of auqua net every four to six days. It was insane. My mother started making me clean the bathroom every week because there was so much hairspray on the door, mirror and floor that she got sick of cleaning it.

OK, now really...delete the comment!

Tracy,

As a child of the 80's I have to agree with all of your choices. Without a doubt The Breakfast Club always has to be part of a slumber party (20 years on and Judd Nelson is still cool in that role).

Perhaps Footloose also needs to be added to the list.

We definitely need some scary movies. I was always partial to a Nightmare on Elm St. Scary and we get to see Johnny Depp (sure, he gets eaten by a bed, but hey, I'll take Johnny any way I can get him).

I've always been partial to a bit of Die Hard as well. A slumber party around xmas time demands the best xmas movie of all time!

Hi Voices

Gosh, your hair was quite a commitment. Did the cleaning regime put you off the hairstyle?!

PS I didn't know I could delete a comment once it was up and running, oopsie sorry about that. I'm forever learning more and more in the Orble world...

Hi KylieW

Yes, Judd Nelson was perfect as the bad boy of the Pack wasn't he? I think we could add Footloose as long as no-one starts dancing...

I forgot about Nightmare on Elm Street, that was another classic film. I think I saw that about a million times.

I've never seen Die Hard....has that got Christmas connotations?

I haven't seen any of the movies you suggest Tracy, but I would like to watch "Love, Actually"... the story happens around Christmas so I guess it fits...or, even better, "Secret window, secret garden" with Johnny Depp (adapted from a Stephen King book). I know you can't say no to Johnny (*wink*).

Hi Pilgrim

Yes, I am partial to a bit of Johnny

I haven't heard of Secret Window, Secret Garden, but I'd be happy to watch that if you bring it along. When was that made? Love Actually is a good choice too. I wonder what else we can watch.....

More info about "Secret window". The name of the story is "Secret window, secret garden", I guess I messed them up a bit (*smile*). I remember it was playing at some cinemas only and I had to go out of my way to see it but it was worth it.

I watched all the films mentioned above except Ferris Bueller's Day Off. So I'm gonna say I'll choose that film and hopefully I can find it at our local video store.
