It’s Cure day!!!!
August 10th 2007 04:39
I don’t often put exclamation marks in my post headings, but today is different. Tonight I’m going to be in the same room as The Cure. Unfortunately about a million others will be there too, but I’m going to ignore that fact.
We have dance floor tickets so my job today is to save my energy as I’ll need it for tonight to get as close to the stage as possible.
I don’t care that I’m my thirties and probably too old for this kind of adoration, but I’m not bothered. All I know is I have loved them for twenty years and will continue to love them as long as they make music.
This’ll be the fourth time in my life I’ve seen them. The last time they came to Australia they played three nights in a row and my sister and I went to all three concerts, bought as many t-shirts and memorabilia as we could afford. They were incredible concerts and I wasn’t sure they would happen again (unless I was back in England), as Robert Smith has an immense fear of flying. What a pity I couldn’t help him deal with it, I could’ve held his hand and guided him through the journey.
Here’s a picture of the man and the band to remind you what they look like:
I could drivel for hours about them but I'll spare you that although I just have to say how much I love their lyrics, their distinct sound, the way that each album is different and conjures up vivid, visual images. And most of all I admire their tenacity and loyalty to their music, fans and me, their main admirer (am I narcissistic or what?).
In all honesty, I would love to meet him and have a cuppa with him. He seems like that sort of chap.
Just to end, here’s a song from YouTube. Even choosing a song was a task as there are so many I love. I chose Pictures of You. When they played it live last time, I can’t explain my feelings and reaction......
Friday, I'm in love.....

That's brilliant you saw them last night and they were so good.
I haven't heard much about them being here, it's front page news as far as I'm concerned!!

I'll sing a lyric for you
I think I'll be writing again about them tomorrow (I can't imagine keeping my mouth shut) so I'll let you know how they were. That's a pity you're going to miss their visit.
Thanks for popping in,
Tracy

That's brilliant that you used to dress like them. I have to say that my taste in clothes hasn't changed that much, black is still the main component. I never did the make-up though....that would've been cool but I was crap with doing the eyeliner.
I can't wait!!!!

Hope you enjoyed it. I saw them many years ago and I hope they still enchant and beguile.

Did you see them at The Entertainment Centre in the 90s? That's when I saw them and they were amazing.
I just got home and they were absolutely brilliant. They played for three and a half hours, amazing considering they must be their late 40s. We were blown away....highlight of my year....

I'm laughing at what you said; yes their look could be quite scary to some!
Oh they were brilliant....I'm still euphoric from it...as well as achy and tired, but it was completely worth it, they were amazing. Absolutely brilliant.

I love that description: gothic nirvana, it describes the feeling perfectly....as I said to Nick, I'm still euphoric from the night....and I want to keep that feeling for as long as possible.
Certain bands like The Cure move into my soul and transport me back to other times so strongly...their lyrics speak to me...

I was happy to share the experience, in fact it's hard to stop me talking about it! Well, actually when I woke up I could only croak as I'd woo hooed, waved and sang the whole time...but even if I had lost my voice for days it would've been all worth it.
So many memories...aaahhhh,
Good to see you, Mis,
Tracy

I admire how they have stayed true to their image and music. It just wouldn't seem right to see them look any other way. But I can understand they don't appeal to all. They still strongly appeal to me, as you can tell, what a night it was. One of the best...
