There is a light that never goes out
July 9th 2008 22:14
If she were here
Maybe we’d watch telly together,
Maybe we’d talk,
Or maybe we wouldn’t.
That would be OK too.
If she were here
Maybe we’d go out clubbing
We’d dance to The Smiths
With our arms poking around in the air
Singing each word with loud emphatic belief.
That would be OK too.
If she were here
We might sit in the lounge,
Light up a big spliff,
Talk rubbish, laugh loudly
And sing to The Smiths
That would be OK too.
If she were here
Maybe we’d go shopping
Maybe we’d sit in a café
Or a pub
And talk, drink and laugh for hours.
That would be OK too.
But only if she were still here
If only she were still here.
Maybe we’d watch telly together,
Maybe we’d talk,
Or maybe we wouldn’t.
That would be OK too.
If she were here
Maybe we’d go out clubbing
We’d dance to The Smiths
With our arms poking around in the air
Singing each word with loud emphatic belief.
That would be OK too.
If she were here
We might sit in the lounge,
Light up a big spliff,
Talk rubbish, laugh loudly
And sing to The Smiths
That would be OK too.
If she were here
Maybe we’d go shopping
Maybe we’d sit in a café
Or a pub
And talk, drink and laugh for hours.
But only if she were still here
If only she were still here.

Flashes of memories
I seem to remember you posted this a while back. Sending you warm thoughts and lots of hugs. Whoever said times heals all sorrows obviously never experienced any

a song, a dirge, sings from your words!
we never lose those we loved,
they are always with us,
wanting us to live life to its fullest,

Thanks for popping in. It's that time of year again which is always hard, the memories are even more rampant. But I like remembering us singing and dancing together even if we sounded like wailing cats (as her boyfriend would always say!!).
What a pity I can't sing the song to you, he he he!!
True, true:
they are always with us,
I know she's in heaven's pub (or somewhere similar), sat at the bar with a vodka and lemonade telling the bar person what song they should play next....!!
Thank-you, I appreciate your thoughts,
Tracy

Theres a great quote in 'Lisey's Story' by Stephen King, about loss, something like "time doesnt dull the pain - it just cuts with a duller blade"

The quote has set me thinking. In my experience, time does not heal all sorrows...it lessens on some levels, but it isn't healed as though the sore was never there.
This is going to sound awfully cynical, but I found that some people when dealing with the awkwardness of death (their awkwardness not mine), grab clichés and desperately throw them at you as though they will somehow help. They don’t, the words are empty, they are generic, one cliché fits all.
They can create a feeling that you should be ‘over it’. This all adds to the feeling of loneliness that is often already there after a death. I ignored those words and was heartened by those that weren’t afraid of the pain of death and could be there for me however the grief took shape.
Thanks for yoru words,
Tracy

That's true about time. Lately I've been thinking about that too, that as I'm getting older, she would've been too if she were here. It seems to cement the fact that she's not here any more and that she was a person...if that makes sense?
