My life of verbs
September 10th 2009 21:42
Well, it’s happened, I’ve given birth, I’m now a mum. Well, if you want to be technical I was one for nine months but I think you might know what I mean. Tracy Junior popped out on the 28th July at 6.55am. The labour was arduous, slightly traumatic but worth it. Our boy is gorgeous, healthy and cheeky. For the sake of internet security, I think we’ll call him LJ.
Now my life has moved into a loving haze of verbs: washing, napping, crying, feeding, tidying, burping, dancing, rocking, wiping and singing. Sometimes I even combine verbs, keeping in touch with my multitasking, time-efficient personality. Sometimes I sing and wipe, other times I dance and wash. A lot of times I pray and rock. It all means something to our little chap.
I’ve worked out how to keep my film zest active and flowing: mums and bubs sessions. Fortunately I live close to three cinemas so my aim is to make fine use of my local attractions. The trick will be finding the time to write anything, seeing how it’s taken me 7 weeks to shave my legs. But we’ll see how we go; it’s a good plan anyhoo.

Did you Tweet during delivery? Where are the blog contraction progress reports? Sigh. And we thought you were a modern woman!
Seriously, heap-big-mega congrats. I always remember the comment by the American multi-squallionaire (what I can't remember is his name) who, after the birth of his first child, said something like, "I never understood that this is what it's all about. Nothing else really matters."
I notice that your list of verbs didn't include "sleep". From my own experience, I think the multi-squillionaire was wrong. What it's really all about is getting some sleep
Many, many, many good wishes,
Chris

Everything
It's good to know that the labour was ok albeit slightly traumatic (I can imagine from the things my sister, who is also a mum, has told me...), and wonderful to hear that you're loving motherhood.
Lots of warm wishes and hugs~
Rusty.

and don't worry about the 7 weeks to shave your legs - i realise this is too much information but i've had ONE bikini wax in almost ONE year. time just becomes too precious and lots of stuff that used to be part of your routine falls by the wayside. ah well. Chris is right, or the multi squillionaire guy is, this is what life's about.
well done, and good luck with the Battle for Sleep! x

Each day something new and magical happens and we love it. My gorgeous husband is besotted with our little one. They chat and gurgle each night and I’ve taken a million pics.
Fergal is doing very well, thanks. He likes to look at LJ and figure out what’s going on. He still loves his walks and doesn’t mind that now there’s three of us.

No I didn’t Tweet but I did make other telling noises while I was in labour. Mostly unprintable...
Aha, my list should’ve involved sleep, you’re right. For both of us and baby LJ. In the beginning he spent a lot of time trying to get to sleep and we spent a lot of time trying to get him there. We were a pair of nocturnal scrambling zombies begging each other, what do we do now? He's still awake.’ But now it’s slowly happening. I remember in the hospital grabbing 10mins whenever I could get it in-between the hoards of people that decided to trot into my room every day. I’ve never been so sleep-hungry. But we’re fortunate though that sometimes he can sleep 6 hours in a row so I can catch up and humanise again. What a lovely boy he is.
It’s amazing, Chris. Thanks for popping over and for your lovely wishes,
Tracy
PS I'm definitely finding out what it's all about as the squillionaire said.

Hope you're well
Ah yes, the labour was turbulent and I can’t say that once the little chap was out it was all forgotten but it does fade. And thankfully beautiful, unique experiences take its place.
I must pop over to yours and see your pics. Thanks for your lovely thoughts,
Tracy

How are things with you? Sorry about that lapse! Hope you and your family are well.
I agree that time does become too precious to spend on things that can be postponed...but having said that, it was a hair emergency with my legs.
Good to see you!

Just popping through your haze to say g'day! I am filled with wonderment and much happiness for you all, though tired just reading about your experiences! Will sleep a full eight hours for you my friend.
Take it easy - at least vicariously!
