Would you stop?

June 28th 2007 03:34

If you were a taxi-driver, would you stop if I waved at you with a dog in my arms wearing an Elizabethan collar and a gammy leg in a purple bandage?

Well, no-one did for us.

So we walked. Well, I did and sometimes I carried him. I had to let him walk and limp for some parts when I couldn’t hold him any more. My arms needed the occasional rest.

Then he did a whoopsie outside the snotty school that didn’t treat my husband well. I was tempted to sling it over their higher-than-needed fence, but I didn’t. There were kids around and I didn't want a criminal record for whoopsie-throwing. If I'm going to get a police record I want it to be for something more substantial than that.

So, I carried the unmissable, almost luminous blue bag in one hand and Fergs in the other. It was then that I thought it might be easier to have more arms or tentacles like an octopus. Then I dismissed that idea as inevitably it would mean just carrying more things. Plus, there didn’t seem much chance that I would morph into an octopus, not at that moment anyway.

Then we passed a monk. I breathed deeply outside the Buddhist Centre.

I stopped and looked around at the street.

I saw grand, striking, colourful houses. People smiled at us and as I walked I discovered that I talk a lot to my fluffer.

It's awful that no one stopped for you, Tracy. Your little doggy is very cute!

Thanks, Nina. I'm completely biased but he is a gorgeous and irresistible pooch. I even tried to walk with a wonky limp and pleading eyes when I saw a taxi in case that would sway them but that didn't work.

I tried to upload a pic of him in the collar but for some reason it didn't work. Getting pics from my phone to Orble even via Photoshop doesn't work. I'll sort out the process one day when I have more time. I think it's my strange phone, not Orble.

Thanks for your comments,

Tracy

An octopus, how very attractive, I'm working on growing new limbs with my research, could be handy an extra one or two.

Love pooch. And we all do those types of things, but hopefully not in the street.

Tracy,

Bloody taxi's. How could they not stop for such a cute little doggy......when he is obviously recovering from an injury!!!

He's an adorable little thing;

I drove taxis for years. (You have to remember I can speak English, and was born in this country, and had a legitimate cab licence).

I used to stop for every person who hailed the cab I was driving (unless I had a fare). You just never know where that person is going. It might be the best fare you've had for weeks. When the Grand Prix was held in Adelaide and flights were booked out? Local Cabbies got fares to Melbourne and Sydney.

Write to Jim Jarmusch (not sure of the spelling) and get him to to Day on Earth (the sequel to Night on Earth). Tom Waits (for no man, woman or dog's) music would be appropriate again.

If I were a cab driver and I saw that adorable little dog with a bad leg I'd probably throw out my fare for him...

I would definitely stop... and I'll also ask if I can visit Fergs whenever
...and, gee... the irony of it all...in the surroundings/environment that u were in...

Hi David

You've certainly done a few diverse jobs in your life.

Your philosophy on customers is altruistic and certainly one I could've done with yesterday. I think this quote could apply to many aspects of life:

You just never know where that person is going. It might be the best fare you've had for weeks.

Today's quest is less active, I'm going to email Jim Jarmusch and suggest your sequel to Night on Earth. Thanks for the idea, if all goes ahead (and I honestly don't see why not), I'll add your name to the credits.

Hi katyzzz

How are your new limbs going? Hope they don't wear you down too much. Good luck with the process,

Tracy

aw if I were a taxi driver I would stop for you for sure Tracy. I would stop for anyone actually.

When I lived in England I was in a spot of bother one night in London and couldn`t find the Police Beat. Eventually after a lot of running I hailed down a taxi and the driver could see I was in distress. He took me straight to the Police Station and wouldn`t let me pay for the fare! I was gobsmacked - an angel I cam across that night I think!

you should have flung the dung!

Hi D.Armenta

He he, I wish that had happened! There were a few taxis that passed with people in it and I still didn't think that was a good enough reason not to take us....we're both only little....

Hi Lara

Yes, the surroundings were ironic weren't they? What a pity the monk didn't have a car as I'm sure he would've taken us.

Hi Ash

I like that motto and like David's I think it could be used in many aspects of life:

you should have flung the dung!

I'm going to remember that, watch out everyone!!

That was a kind taxi driver you had in London, he really was an angel. It's always good to hear stories like that one.

That pooch is a cutie patootie...I cannot believe no one stopped. Shame on them! Too bad you did not have a lighter to make a Flaming Poo Bomb!

Hi Mis

I love that phrase:

cutie patootie

I think I'll add that to my list of names I call him...Angel, Fergs, Fergsalicious, Fergerooni, Fergalily, Furger Burger, Fergles, Mr F and many more....

Yeah, I agree, shame on those that did not stop!! Ah well, the vet told me of a company that does take pooches so I'm well prepared if it happens again. But hopefully our car will be back from the garage by then-it's the second time in a month that someone has rear-ended us. Bizarre. But the main thing is that no-one was hurt and we're lucky enough to live in an area where we can trot to most places and we really don't tend to use it that much apart from trips to see parents and vets!

Byeeeee and thanks for your comments,

Tracy

??!

If you were in the taxi your dog wouldn't have crapped on the school. Swings and Roundabouts.

Yes, I was trying to cajole him into walking without a limp....it didn't work.

I think I must've sounded like a mad woman. Then again, people talk to plants, so maybe I'm not as loopy as I think.

Very true about the whoopsie, Yoda!!!!

Please use this at will...cutie patootie. Can I use Fergerooni? So funny!..

I did not realize that there are cab companies that assist pets and their owners. That is great.

I hope that your car is running again. Have a great week!

Hi Mis

Glad you like Fergerooni! The poor chap has so variations of his name that I'm surprised he even know it's him that I'm calling! Ah well, I can't help it, these names just keep popping out.

Yes, I didn't know that there were companies that will take pets if you call first. I did just did the optimistic thing and thought I didn't need to. I'm always learning in lifee!

I think our car might be another few days, so I'll enjoy trottting around....I love spotting something that's always been there but if you look again and from a different angle, it looks different.
