Your most memorable music moment in a film..
October 24th 2006 00:17
What is your most memorable music moment in a film? Or do you have a favourite soundtrack to a film?
As I mentioned in a previous post, one the most memorable music moments in a film for me is the opening scene to Donnie Darko. The blend of scenery and the song Killing Moon by Echo and The Bunnymen has stayed with me since the first time I saw the film. It is a perfect, sublime introduction to an unusual, multi-layered film.
Here are few notable soundtracks that I thought of:
Until the End of the World
Trainspotting
Ghost Dog The Way of the Samurai
Romeo and Juliet
Batman Returns
The Wall – Pink Floyd
Metropolis

The music from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are also favourites of mine, because they are so distinctive and recognisable. The music was also the best part of Titanic (with the exception of 'My Heart Will Go On.')
There are probably others, but they escape me at the moment.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, the music in Moulin Rouge was very suitable and I'd forgotten about Brassed Off, I saw that ages ago.
Ah yes, the music in Titanic and Lord of the Rings was quite significant I thought, and they really added to the films. I find it hard to think about them without some sort of music popping into my head.

This is a great question, I'm a little jealous I didn't think of it! *wink*
Favorite song in a movie...I wish I could tell you it was something utterly deep but it wasn't. There are three movies that I loved all the music in...
Men in Black
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Grease
If I think of more, I'll be back...

Thanks for dropping in and for the compliment on the topic
Feel free to tell me any other songs/music you think of.....they don't have to be deep and meaningful....

I love the use of music all the way through the Buffy musical, 'Once More, With Feeling.'
And I agree with Nina on Moulin Rouge.

Thanks for your comments. I had forgotten there was a Buffy film as well as the series. I haven't heard any of the music to that one...
Yes, the music in Moulin Rouge was very apt..

The Buffy episode is actually embedded within Season 6 of the show, and advances the plot, so that it's both separate from and simultaneously part of the whole. It's very unconventional, I recommend it to people who are fans of kooky things.

This next one certainly isn't deep and meaningful, but the songs in Team America World Police were very well done, and never fail to crack me up.

Aaah, I see, thanks for explaining that. That's a great way to do it, very unusual. I've only seen small excerpts of Buffy, but I know it's very popular.

Yes, what a good one. The songs in Team America were great. My friends and I were singing 'America f**k yeah', for eons afterwards. Now it's back in my head....

Thanks for your comments, I have to admit that I don't remember the music that much in Forrest Gump and Almost Famous. I haven't seen Elizabethtown either, but I think I might do that on a lazy afternoon off

Thanks for your comments, that's a good idea noting the composers of the music that stands out. I've heard soundtracks of The Blues Brothers, Reservoir Dogs and The Big Chill, they are all good. but I haven't heard the others...

I really like Vangelis, but I'm reluctant to admit I've never seen Blade Runner...another one on my ever-growing list..

Thanks for dropping in. I've seen Finding Neverland and was really moved by it, but I can't remember the music which is a pity. I just looked it up on Wiki to try and jog my memory and like you said it won an the Academy Award for Best Original Score by Jan A. P. Kaczmarek. Gosh, that's great. A friend has a copy on DVD so I'll have a listen. I haven't seen any of The Godfather films (eek!), so that is another on my list of, 'to see films'.

- Neil Young's haunting music to Dead Man
- Dancer in the Dark (my most memorable scene is when Bjork dances and sings with the cop she has killed!)
- O Brother, Where Art Thou?
- American Psycho with it's rocking eighties soundtrack (not to mention Patrick Bateman's hilarious commentary, particularly on Huey Lewis and the News)
- Any of Morricone's music on Leonie's films is also excellent.
- Of course Tarantino also puts cool soundtracks together.
Have a good one,

Thanks for your comments, you added a few good ones that I had forgotten to include. I also love the Dead Man soundtrack (haven't seen the film even though it's in my lounge room and I have the CD), Dancer in the Dark and Pulp Fiction. I can't remember the music in American Psycho, what a pity.

I went to see the movie the night before a major surgery - hysterectomy. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything, but I wasn't about to sit at home and "wait for it". I'm a huge Alanis fan, so I made it a point. But here's what sucks:
I waited, waited, waited through the movie, but there came a point I could wait no more. Mother nature was calling and I had to make a major run for the ladies room. Wouldn't ya know it, that's when the song played and I missed it!!! UGH! No worries, though - I got the soundtrack after the surgery and listened 'til my heart was content.

What a pity you missed the long after all your patient waiting.. But at least you got the soundtrack, hope it helped you recuperate after your surgery.
